Green Roofs, Green Design
The green roof and roof top garden for the Boeing Corporation in St. Louis has recently been completed and the plantings have become quite lush. This unique rooftop garden and entrance plaza designed by SED design and engineered by Charlie Miller of Roofscapes serves as an entrance plaza and garden over an underground building. The rooftop garden has transformed an asphalt lot into an environmentally sound usable open space for employees to enjoy. The landscape includes areas for employees to enjoy the outdoors. In addition to the terrace areas and walkways the landscap include both intensive and extensive green roof plantings with base level irrigation in prominent areas.
The serpentine walkways reflect the meandering Mississippi River while the terrace paving and plantings are inspired by the agrarian and historic development patterns throughout the region.
SED design has been designing and over seeing the implementation of Green Roofs for over eight years. Green roofs are one of many Best Management Practices (BMP's) and Low Impact Design (LID) strategies for which SED design is known. SED design's integrate GREEN strategies in creative and memorable ways.
