Mermaid Lake Recreation Facility is a multi-faceted recreation campus in eastern Montgomery County. The 70-acre site includes a golf course, a catering operation, a swim club and a camp. Opened in the early 1940's as a swim club in a country park setting, it has expanded to serve a broad range of services for the regional community.

Strategic planning involved the integration of many diverse functions to maximize utilization of the site. A critical component of the planning and design process was to restore and enhance the country park character on which Mermaid established it's unique identity. Restoring this identity is particularly important now that the campus is surrounded by suburban growth.

Planning and detailed design strategies incorporate a unified design approach based on reestablishing the park identity. To accommodate the extensive program, new features include entrance and arrival areas, traffic circulation patterns, recreation plazas and outdoor activity centers, and stormwater management through a restored stream corridor.

The master plan and detailed designs are currently being implemented.
